This  program is designed for teachers who have less than six years of teaching experience. The goals of the program are to provide the following:

bulletCurriculum Structure and Sequencing
bulletContext Knowledge for the Specific Discipline
bulletMethods of Teaching Specific topics within the Curriculum
bulletEnhance your classroom presentations in many areas of the Biology program
bulletEncourage teachers to use methods in their classrooms that involve new demonstration ideas
bulletExpand the scope of your laboratory activities
bulletProvide a forum for discussion and sharing of their materials and ideas
bulletProvide an opportunity for teachers training for multiple disciplines

The core topics in the Living Environment, presented in the NY State standards are just that -- a core for the syllabus.  The intent of the state is to give the bare bones to be taught, leaving the individual teacher/district to enhance and add topics as s/he sees fit.

Each workshop session will address a central biological topic, and discuss ways to incorporate that theme into effective classroom, Internet, and laboratory exercises to enrich the biology curriculum, and help students develop skills for success in advanced biology courses.

           Topics:

                    Evolution and Genetics

                    Ecology and Energy Transfer

                    Scientific Inquiry / Laboratory Skills
