Training FOR Science TEACHERS Grade 7-12
2002 Agenda and Driving Directions Click Here This program is designed to enhance teachers’ knowledge in modern instrumentation and technology used in industry today. This program will advance your background in analytical skills used in modern laboratories. It will help teachers transfer their knowledge of science applications into better classroom activities. A new 2002 summer institute is being prepared. The primary purpose for each of these sessions is to provide teachers, like you, with the opportunity to experience relevant hands-on science experiments that can be brought back to the science classroom and laboratory. PWISTA is open to all science teachers interested in consumer,
material and environmental science. Below is a partial list of the places you will
visit and a description of some of the activities you will complete. Bayer Pharmaceuticals

we explore the world of instrumental analysis and their role in our everyday
health care facilities. Kraft/Maxwell House
(Tarrytown, NY) Carbohydrate science is the topic
of exploration at Kraft. AKZO/NOBEL (Ardsley, NY) The science of Polymerization and
Catalyst will be explored. A pilot plant design will be visited and evaluated. Seagrams, (Tarrytown,
NY) The participants explore the
science of beverages. IBM Facility, (Watson Research, Yorktown, NY) The role of research and product development will be studied. Westchester Environmental and Forensic Laboratory Facilities, (Valhalla, NY) Environmental and Forensic Science will be studied. Location: - Initially at SUNY Purchase, Teaching Center, Natural Science Building , Varied Locations.
